How we stay creative.
APR 11 2018 - Often as a creative we get caught up in the daily grind: checklists, project management, and meetings can easily take over.
How do we make a commitment to create everyday?
What if we had a project without boundaries? A project for the sake of creating beautiful outcomes for ourselves. It got us thinking.
At the start of the new year we began to trial a design challenge set to a theme chosen by us, for us. It was full of kinks at first which we have since wrinkled out including:
Dedicate one hour of non-interrupted time and one hour only. Cutting the time helped reduce stress and the need to be perfect.
Functionality isn’t in the equation.
This is a hard one for many on our team since we are hardcore usability advocates. It can be fun to take a vacation from worrying about the UX and focus on the beauty without limitation.
There is no client.
There is no need to worry about the subjective and emotional landscape of a client in this exercise. Let your imagination fly and showcase your vision.
Get off Dribbble and Behance.
Don’t get us wrong - we as a team frequent the visual favorites. However the comparison effect is real and isn’t productive. Don’t worry about what any other creative is crafting - it doesn’t matter.
