why do you do what you do?
I find the area of sports, entertainment and intellectual property law to be one of the more interesting facets of the legal industry. Practicing in this area of the law I'm able to intermingle my interest in the law with my creativity. I also genuinely like helping people protect their works and ideas. With regards to teaching, I love imparting students with practical skill-sets. I think law school teaches students a lot about the law but not how to actually apply it. I want to make sure students are more equipped for the actual practice of law when they graduate in a way that I think most law school curriculum's fail to do. Lastly, with regards to producing, I just love creating content and telling the stories of black and brown people in a way that has traditionally been absent from various media platforms.
what's one thing you hope never changes?
People's hope that things can always get better.
when do you feel most alive?
I feel most alive when I'm traveling. I love exploring new continents and countries. Two years ago I decided to take my first solo international trip to Thailand and had the time of my life. My goal now is to travel abroad at least once a year. Hoping to check off Madagascar and Hong Kong soon.
what are you really good at, but kind of embarrassed that you're so good at it?
I'm really really good at moving on.
what's the hardest lesson you've had to learn?
The hardest lesson I've had to learn is that its tricky working with friends. I've worked with friends in terms of representing them as clients and I've also entered in partnerships with friends for various ventures. Sometimes it has worked out but more often than not it ends up negatively affecting the friendship. Now I try to keep friends and business separate.
